Sliver,

I once read in a piece on m/l shotguns that when POI is adjusted, as you described, that metal is removed from the side opposite the direction you wish to move the shot charge. The tome said that more gas would escape the muzzle at the point the metal was removed thus pushing the shot charge the opposite direction. Is that how you found it to be, or different from that? Always wondered if the article was right.

May God bless America and those who defend her.

My experience has been that the metal should be removed from the muzzle, on the side you want the POI to move toward. If metal is removed from the opposite side, it should be back from the muzzle, in conjunction with removing metal at the muzzle on the side of the POI desired.

If you work inside the choke, remove metal from where you want the POI to go. For example if the barrel shoots to L and you want it to shoot to R, then remove metal from R of the choke as you look at the target.
The POI can be moved to R if you slightly shorten the barrel at the L thus allowing gases to escape to the L first, pushing the wad to the R.

Forget about gases. There is nothing better, than right parallel choke, where cutting of face at the very end of muzzle is enough.
