Can you find the "bird" in this engraving?

Not sure what style this is? Maybe Cubism or Expressionism.

Looks like they were trying to imitate Grade 1 Ithaca engraving --

Too right! Though I always thought of that style as authentic "art deco"....lot's of that here in Tulsa..

I guess, for me anyway, any hand engraving, even pudgy bird like blobs or goosestepping ducks, gives a sense of connectivity.....moreso than an aluminum receivered pump gun..

No doubt, what a lot of the attraction is to our damascus barrells ...... and those sketches & drawings our kids make that we just can't put in the trash.........

I think we should call that "Art Deco" example "First Grade Post-Idealism," after Ithaca/L.C.Smith. Or maybe "you couldn't afford the beef or the turnip, but you still get the greens."

(Actually, I find genuine Elsie Ideals or Ithaca Grade Is quite tasty....).

Our flying turnips are just plain old American Folk Art.

A 60's Gorosabel A&D 10 ga boxlock I own is missing the turnips and beef, but does have a good rendition of balled up fuzzy caterpillers and flaming fire balls!
