Advertised as a Winchester 54 .22 Hornet, but that is probably just what it says on the barrel

More and larger photos at the link.

Anyone recognize it?

Thanks,
Bruce

Sorry, don't recognize it but it AIN'T a Model 54, although it is just possible that someone has used a Model 54 barrel as a blank to re-barrel it, and left the markings readable.

To me it looks like a German or Czech rifle of modest means, possibly retailed by someone like GECO. Some of those are very handy little guns; others are of marginal quality and strength. Might well be a .22 Hornet. We need markings.

The striker and the way the bolt handle turns down into a small notch are much like the Steyr Small Bore carbine in 22 RF sold by Stoeger in the 1950s. But the body of the bolt and the magazine are much different. It could be another version of the Steyr action.

Last time I felt like spending $900 on lil' .22 hornet was few years ago when I looked over Kimber 82 classic in a box with papers. It was a good one. You know, it was made by company that went kaput and spare parts are no longer available.
Not sure what it is but one thing I am sure of that thingy at $abela's ain't worth $900.
PS. Another classic one worth looking at is ole' "pre-64" Brno 'Fox' mini Mauser. Sadly I passed on 50s vintage one with set trigger and 3x Meopta scope in factory mount of same period.
