When looking at drillings pay particular attention to rifle caliber and make sure the piece has not had American gunsmithing done to it. I prefer 'R' cartridges with domestic .30-30 and .30-40 most preferable. Good Euro rounds include: 6,5x57R, 7x57R, 7x65R, 8x57JRS, 9,3x74R. Needless to say avoid extinct cartridge versions like a plague. I prefer ones with just plain rib and folding leaf sight to scoped ones unless the scope is modern in q-d mounts that return to zero after removal/replacement (like the Suhler claw mount). I do not care for 'vintage' scopes with dial-type elevation adjustment only and single coat of magnesium flouride coating on lenses or none at all. In reality these are less capable then modern $100 scopes adding nothing but dead weight to the drilling.
