Homeless"J"..Good memory!"Twas" a "New" Boss&Co, 28b.Terrible accident..Client was beside himself...(Not the $65,000.00 that the London Boys had Tagged the finished Beauty at) The stock was a Irreplaceable Grade"......The Gents Wife had picked the Blank whilst at Boss & Co.Could we say after Many years of wedded Bliss she wanted to "Do it up Special" So I repaired it. I was told recently by the Client, that with several other Shooters, the "Little Bugger" has digested well over a 1000. Cartridges with no"Hickups"! Have done some"Quite Spectacular" jobs recently, both Modern guns & DB Rifles,but we here at"Breaks with Tradition" Really get into the "OLD Stuff". The shame of it is,that they fall into the realm of"MLaS"........Guess that one and the Lobsters for dinner are "On Deck"& paid for......cc/dt

DT are you referring to the current 'Best' gunmakers? 'MLas' Making Loads'a S**t? started in Italy, finished in Brum, sold in 'The Smoke'.
Reference CJO's post, that was how I was thinking of repairing the featured stock, by inletting a carbon fibre or a composite biscuit.

No, DK, you use one of the shown (or variations)lay-outs. Both pieces of the stock are "drilled/mortised" the same and in alignment. There is skill involved, however, not nearly as much as if you tried to make the tenon/pin a tight fit. Drilling from the stock face does allow for a tighter fit and reduced glue line thickness (a potential source of weakness), but is not always practical. Maintaing hole location and alignment across a boundary (the break) between two separate pieces is not easy, but is, still, a basic machining function. Avoiding breaking through the outter layer of wood, the "skin," is also a skill. There are times for each of the basic layouts; knowing which will serve best is also a skill.

The one I was thinking of was another auto involved fiasco. The last Invincible reportedly was broken by a car running over it. The stock was replaced instead of fixed and who ever did it did not match the colors. Amazing how autos are so unfriendly to guns. Bo Whoop got lost that way and many others laid on or against a car. Guess we shouldn't do it.
