The gunmaker seems that traded in the early XX century. This example has serial Nº 9904,it looks robust, proofed in Birmingham. It is a 12 Ga. with sideclips, ejectors, Southgate gas channels, DT not articulated, plainish wood. This one has a Belgian connection, it was engraved by H. Mahillon.

Baker´s "Heyday of the Shotgun" Apendix II, Gunmakers of the UK in 1900, does not show it. Cornell publications has a catalog from F.C. Scott from 1910. What was their market focus? Any relation with W&C Scott? Any idea of its current value?

The inspection cover for the square hidden third bite is typical W.C.Scott. I think FC was one of his sons.

Stocked to the fences...beautiful gun. If it has sound barrels I'd say a minimum of 6 grand on up.

According to above reference, H. Mahillon were the sole importers of the shotguns to Belgium, not the engravers.

I think Homie is right - FC was a son of either W or C Scott.

I've handled a few of nice guns by him, including this one which, looks like a W&C Scott:

very good imput, it seems that FC Scott made a wide variety of models, from very good to best guns, the one from by Cabelas looks a real throphy gun. I hope the pictured one goes to able hands. EJSXS

FC Scott 1904-1919?

Frederick C Scott appears to have commenced in business as a trade manufacturer in Princip Street, Birmingham, but he also sold direct to the public.

He made fine sporting guns and rifles and specialised in pigeon guns. He made guns for Holland & Holland and supplied more No.2 and No. 3 Hammerless models than any other maker. He was appointed gunmaker to King Gustav V of Sweden.

Frederick C Scott was almost certainly related to the W & C Scott & Sons families (W & C Scott supplied more guns to Holland & Holland than any other trade manufacturer).

In the 1881 census William Scott was recorded living at 158 Victoria Road, Aston Manor with Mary Ann. Their son Frederick M Scott was still living at home (aged 42) and was still employed as a gunmaker.

In 1909 the business was re-named Frank C Scott and it expanded into 81 Bath Street. In 1914 it moved to 67-68 Princip Street, and in 1915 the address was 65-68 Princip Street. In 1919 the firm acquired limited liability and became F C Scott Ltd.

Both guns are only 20 places appart, maybe built on the same year. The local one is serial Nº9904, the Cabelas one is serial Nº9924.

Your gun is a lot higher grade gun than the Cabelas gun...They are in la-la land as usual with their pricing on that gun.
