This is an excellent illustration on why it is best to aviod buying guns you can't see in person, or shoot. I've handled more than one gun that had dimensions similar to what I need that just didn't shoot to where I was looking.
Buy at an auction, and take your chances. That probably is the best place for jOe to come up with his sleevers, however, and since he shoots birds on the ground, fit and POI aren't as important.

OK, you can for sure sell it and move on. ORrrrrr, you might just consider having the stock modified to fit it to your person. If you will only shoot "off the peg" guns, then you will either have to learn how to identify those that fit and to be very selective so as to buy only such guns, or you will need to be very lucky. Should you decide to venture into the field of individually fitted guns, then you will need a fitter and a smith. Your choice.

I suggest try a pattern board. Shoot it at 40 yards and see what your POI pattern is. Take it to a stock bender (lots on the board, ask members for recommendations). Two bends would cost you at most 2 C notes. I have a 410 LC that I could not hit the broad side of a barn with. After I patterned it at 30 yards (std for 410's) and had two bends done (cast on, I'm a righty who shoots lefty- cross dominant) I easily got 20/25 at trap with full chokes at 27 yards consistently. If you love the gun good enought, take this route.

Can't possibly mean 27 yd handicap with a .410, right? Is that what you mean to say? At the 27 yd. line I'd think you'd have to let them get 10/15 yrds out of the house if you have normal visual acuity, reflexes. You are a heck of a trap shooter or you're confusing me or both.

Don't think it is operator error since my last three rounds before that were 24-24-25 with my Browning Citori. The rib is just too concaved and it runs down along the barrels actually lower than the barrels. I haven't seen too many guns with ribs that low. But, it should make a good home defense gun. Or, cowboy shooting is pretty popular in these parts, so maybe that is a good place to send it. And yes, it does have a BTFE. That is one of the things I did like about it. And you are right Ted, I doubt if Joe could HIT the ground, let alone hit a bird on the ground. I have noticed how often he remarks about people's dipsticks. I just assume he is wired for 220. And rabbit, I am talking about shooting skeet- Model 500 Miroku- 12 gauge- straight grip- BTFE. Thanks for the input.

I would pay double for an old beat up, rusted Mossberg before owning that piece of junk!!!

Try old Beretta. I looked at 50s Silver Hawk in very good conditon for $650. It handles like Winchester model 23 but you get dts with front articulated, Greener x-bolt, and some hand engraving but loose the ejectors. One must remember least expensive Beretta is still a BERETTA. The "guts" must be made to good standard as even screw heads holding forend iron to wood and those holding butt plate were nicely engraved.
