Process OF ELIMINATION a .257 WEATHERBY WILL NOT REMOTELY CHAMBER IN A .257 ROBERTS chamber, which is the offspring of the 7x57 Mauser. Michael is however in the long run correct, because you have no idea if this rifle was chambered for some long ago forgotten wildcat [as we used to call em'] such as the .257 Gungoboomheadsplit! Also I don't know why and I can't explain it but in my 47 years behind the gun counter in my Dad's store and then mine when I inherited it, I have found more .257 Roberts with chambers that will close on a no go gage than any other caliber. Gladly most would not close on a field gage but a lot!!!!!! would close on a no go? My dad used to say it was because so many 'smiths used necked down 7x57 brass to headspace barrels in the old days and it was not the same as .257 Roberts SAAMI specs and also WINCHESTER'S brass was just plain different in length, in fact I believe Roy Dunlap mentions this in his classic tome "Gunsmithing". So unless you're prepared to get an old tire and a long piece of string ...get the cast...you won't regret it. If you are too lazy to get the cast I strongly suggest the tire and a very long piece of string before you try and determine just what it is actually chambered for!!!!!!!!!!! Best of Luck Jerry P.S. I nearly forgot...check the headspace too!!!!!

.257 Roberts. I had a chamber cast done by a local gunsmith. Also, the Marble sight is a "leaf sight" with a slide button, not a screw. Does this help?

Joe Dubiel, the son, was located in Sherman, TX, but Joe died several years ago, so Dubiel Arms is no more.
Joe was a good friend of mine, I miss him.

257 Roberts is a fine cartridge, we would love to see pictures of your rifle.
