Thanks Ghostdog. He was fairly well known in his time but mainly for muzzle loaders. George Fuller died in 1880 and the firm was never carried on. His output was quite low but all of good quality. The top rib indicates that he must have been patronised by Price Albert. He was quite into guns and would have had both the means and the eye for quality firearms. Lagopus.....

Here is another George Fuller shotgun I found recently at a local pawnshop. Not my area of collecting interest usually but I recognized the quality and wanted to take her home and clean her up. The price was very reasonable too. The action is in great shape as are the bores. I would not have bought the gun had the rod not been there probably. Nice to see that. I have since removed much of the scaling on the barrels and minor rust around the nipples. The downside is the left hammer has a piece missing. The serial number is 636. The usual engraving on the barrel rib: 'George Fuller maker to HRH Prince Albert 280 Strand London.' Sold by Leech and Son. Can't make out the initials on the owner plate, might be shown upside down. Any information appreciated.

Very glad that you bought it. Can't quite understand the Leech lock plates though. I wonder if it was stock that Leech bought after Fuller's death. Nevertheless you have a piece of quality. Although Fuller is not now so well known, his guns at the time were rivals of those of Purdey and Boss. They may not command the same re-sale prices but are of comparable quality. Great find! That's a true sleeper, you got really lucky!

Dawn Patroll - just out of interest whats your plan of action regarding the blow out plugs? Left side might just be all gummed up, but the right side has been replaced with a screw, seems a shame to begin with, don't know what it means from a shooting point of view.

Nice guns there

I am sure glad to hear you fellows like the old G. Fuller. Thanks for your thumbs up and information. As to the blow out plugs, this is new to me so I am not sure how to proceed but will probably just leave it as is. It's a exciting wall piece for me at this point. smile

Interesting barrel pattern called "English Damascus Twist", Damas Anglais Coupe', Gebrochener Englischer Damast, or Combination Damascus. Not uncommon mid-1800s MLs and early breechloaders
