I'm looking at a 95% E.J. Churchill 20 Bore boxlock gun made in 1962 with 28" barrels,Churchill rib, .0010 & .0023 chokes, english stock, splinter forearm with double triggers. All serial numbers match and the gun is all original except for the added checkered ebony butt plate. The original leather case is also included.I would appreciate any comments on the quality and value for a Churchill boxlock. Thanks

This is basically a Webley 700 finished as a Churchill.
Cased and in vgc, I'd value this in the UK at £1200 retail if it were a 12-bore. Add 20% - 30% for a 20 bore.

Handsome gun! 5k, or more in the USA. One of my first English guns, was my Churchill utility grade with Westley's crappy sleeve job was 2500.00. Your's is so-so much better. Better make that even more $$$$$.

This gun is outside my model (too modern), but I agree with small bore with a USA twist. I'd agree on the base 12 bore price, but I'd add 50% for the small gauge premium and $500 for shipping. That makes it $2400 times 1.5 + $500 = $4100. Don't confuse this gun with the much higher original quality grades implied (and often asumed) by the Churchill name. Remember that most makers supplied guns in a wide range of original quality, Churchill included. The high level of current condition is the real price driver on this one - case helps, too.

Nah - $5500 - $5995.
Try and find a modern, nearly new English 20g boxlock with ejectors, in its case, for less that that. This gun has everything, too - DT, straight grip, 28" bbls, nice color
And this one says's Churchill on it - that's worth more than a Scott.
Hell, what's an AYA 453 like this cost? $2800? This is at least twice the gun.

I was told that the action could very well have come from Webley & Scott since there were only about 3 or 4 companies at that time making the boxlock actions but the hand fitting and finish of the Churchill guns is well above the finished quality of a Webley & Scott. The gun weighs 5 lb 6 OZ and balances really well. Asking price for a Webley & Scott Model 700 20 bore with 28" barrels is $5900. http://www.williamlarkinmoore.com/product_details.asp?id=1373

During the 1970,s Churchill boxlocks were made by the by the old established Birmingham firm of S.Wright & Co;.I had the privelege of spending time in this facility in company with late Mr D.A.Masters, of Churchills. Harris and Sheldon, owned Churchills, Wright,s and Webley and Scott at that time. I can attest to the fact that the Churchill guns were not at that time, made in the Webley and Scott plant. It is very likely that basic production of barrels and action fogings were supplied by Webley and Scott A Canadian dealer recently sold a W&S 20,G, Model 700, in mint condition for $3200.

I saw one of these perhaps a year ago at a gun show, the table belonged to a large well known dealer, but I don't remember which one, as there are several who frequent this show. It could have been this gun's twin, my memory says it looked exactly the same, and also was a 20 bore. It showed a bit more wear, particularly the case, which might have had a few airline flights. The gun actually sold while I was looking at it, only really half seriously. Someone who had seen it earlier came back by the table and pronounced he would take it at the seller's last offer to him. I believe the sales price was $3,500 or thereabouts. I thought at the time that was a pretty nice buy.

From a Bonhams July 2006 auction: #122 A fine 20-bore 'Model 700' boxlock ejector gun by Webley & Scott, no. 146038 £2,200. The 2200 pounds is exclusive of the buyer's premium, so the buyer was actually willing to part with a good bit of money, even without the Churchill name. http://www.bonhams.com/cgi-bin/public.sh...p;iSaleNo=13598

Your Boswell was made by Frank Malin when he owned the Boswell name in England. He later came to Canada and produced fine guns under his own name. I will post a photo of one that I own and I would not sell it for 3500 but Twice that. Buy it.
