It would have been an interesting rifle. That is......the rifle that was originally built in that stock.
If I'm not mistaken, that's a stock for a Mauser. The thumb recess is still visible on the left side of the receiver. And it certainly isn't inletted to the rear tang of a Springfield. The bottom metal fits a little funky also. There aren't any closeup pictures of any of the inletting....for good reason.
Nice vintage Lyman receiver sight, a low numbered Springfield action, and a stock that likely couldn't be salvaged without major effort.
If I had to assume knowledgeable bidders, I'd have to guess they recognize the stock maker.....
