Hi,
I added some wood to lengthen the stock, and now feel my drop at face is a little low. When I mount the gun i see a lot of barrel and tend to crane my head up.
I tried just putting a piece of cloth at my face, and feel this is enough to get me back to the original height. (sorry my terminology may be wrong)
Any suggestions as to a fix? Will just an adhesive bandage or moleskin work? If it does, is there a more permanent fix?
The gun is a 12 guage s/s english stock, 28 inch barrel, double triggers. It is for shooting, not a collecter.
thank you all

Mole skin works, or the stock could be bent. It does not sound like you need much at all. Steve

I use a neoprene stock boot made by beartooth. Galazan sells them. You can even buy a shim kit that goes under the pad to raise the comb. I did it this fall. I had my gun fitted to me but the pattern is just a shade low for game shooting where I like a 60/40 pattern. I will get the gun bent to the new dimension in the spring after the season is over.

If the metal that meets the wood is simple (870, 390, ect., a shim can be added to the bottom of that joint face to move the comb up. I use the tooth pick method on K-80's. I shim with tooth picks and when it's right I glass bed the action. I can move the heel of a stock about 1/4 inch before the wood to metal fit looks real bad.

I think I'll try moleskin for now. The gun is a Merkel 47e, and I do not know how to work on the stock. IF I can tell the difference after I use it this way for a while, I'll look for someone to bend the stock a little.
thanks

Pattern the gun before you do anything to determine point of impact. Don't just assume that the gun will shoot high because you see alot of barrel. This was allmost learned the hard way by me. I bought a 28ga that had a stock 3/4 in to long for me so I cut it. Length of pull was now fine but I saw a tremendous amount of barrel and was tempted to take a rasp to the comb. I thought it might be a good idea to shoot it first and check POI. A good thing I did because it shot dead on with the trap gun like sight picture.
