This Great Plains rifle was recently purchased by me. The story I got with it was that it was pulled out of a dumpster in Wisconsin! The maker according to the NRA historian is S Heston who was a well known gunsmith located in Worthington Indiana.

So you're saying that we should perhaps take up dumpster diving? I have often wondered how many widows just put their late husbands' guns out for the trash collection.

Keith:
This situation was disturbing to me. Here was a firearm individually crafted by this maker that had been unceremouniosly tossed into a dumpster. If the individual I bought it from hadn't retrieved it; it would now be residing in a landfill and another piece of history would have been lost forever.

Take up dumpster diving? I have a doctorate in that art form.

I'm torn between the swan dive or the double back-flip.
Occasionally a belly flop followed by the dog-paddle is productive and shows a certain down-to-earth style

Belly flop/dog paddle; it's the American Way! (I still have an Ithaca 37 U.S.-marked riot gun whose vitals minus barrel I retrieved from a dumpster in Pullman, WA in 1976, apparently from a fraternity house disarmament program).

We had quite the case here around 10 years ago when a petite blond hairdresser got caught disposing of her husbands torso* in a dumpster. She's now doing time as well as hair for her roomates at the state pen.
*They never did find the rest of him.

I've told my wife to put me in the green can at the curb when I pass. Save her a ton of money.
Dust to dust, and all that.

There was a story many years ago about a boy finding a holstered Walker Colt in a trash can and found using it for his "cowboy" gun.
