I'm back on the computer, been shooting and working outside in the nice fall weather.

Anyone have a Hans Tauscher catalog? Thee is one on-line but I need one to copy. Tauscher was a New York dealer who imported sporters made on Mauser actions before WWI.

Anyone have a Tauscher rifle?

I got onto Tauscher because of a question on a custom rifle that was marked "Spitzer-Bullet" on the receiver.

I think Tauscher also had something to do with the effort to get t.he Luger adopted by the US Army

Tauscher was involved in a lot of things, an interesting character.

Michael - Per your request on the Jouster boards, I'll attempt in the near future to post additional photos of my DWM "Spitzer Bullet" Mauser (per photo above). Mine is in standard 8x57 caliber with the open sights regulated for the 154 gr bullet as adopted by the German army about 1905. Sights are marked for 200 and 300 meter range.
The rare and now expensive Lyman number 35 aperture sight and the gold bead front sight were options offered in Tauscher's catalog. The original buttplate was likely a bakelite or other similar composition as evidenced by the small piece remaining after the fitting a period aftermarket rubber recoil pad. Of course, the existing pad has petrified to a solid state and is about the only repair this rifle needs.
"A thing of beauty is a joy forever" or some similar quote sure applies to this rifle. Some years ago, I was just looking for a decent example of an original German or Austrian type sporter when I stumbled across this on a gunshow table. I quickly got over the fact that it didn't have double-set triggers.

I added links above for interested parties to refer to. The Tauscher sales catalog pages can be accessed by clicking on the arrows below the illustration. The rifle I have is on page 13 and the Lyman #35 sight is on page 24. Regards.

Welcome to the forum, I'll look forward to more pictures. I've ask around and posted different places and no one seems to have another Tauscher. Now that more people are aware of them I'm sure others will surface. I noticed in the Speed book there are several Mauser (not DWM) serial numbers of Tauscher rifles. An interesting chapter in custom rifles.
