There was a story many years ago about a boy finding a holstered Walker Colt in a trash can and found using it for his "cowboy" gun.

I rescued 4 perfectly good fish mounts than someone had put out for the trash man a few years ago and turned around and sold them. This a a picture of one of them which was a 36" Northern Pike. Jim

Dumpster diving is not above me. Recently at my club in my usual trash can check I found about 60 lbs of ammo that the local police dept decided to destroy by pulling the bullets with pliers. They dumped the powder on the ground in one pile. Much of the primed brass is still useable. The shot shells they cut above the brass also dumping the powder. I found a number of antigue shells destroyed some loaded with black. I salvaged the shot, buckshot, slugs and fiber wads. Seams to me that a better way to destroy shot shells would be to shoot them, perhaps even some sort of training with them. But we are talking about New Jersey cops here. Better to risk ones hands with a razor knife so if they get cut they can stay home on dissability at the taxpayers exspence.

I had a close friend who once bought a flintlock pistol from a kid in Charleston, S.C. who was "using" it in a game of cowboys and Indians with his friends, who all had cap pistols. My friend asked the kid wouldn't he like to have a cap pistol like his friends, to which the kid replied that, yes, he would, but a cap pistol and a roll of caps cost fifty cents. My friend was happy to give the kid enough to buy himself a cap pistol and several rolls of caps. Both parties went away happy.

To each his own, and no one likes to see guns tossed, but that rifle is what I call a 'wooden nickel' gun. Meaning I wouldn't pay a wooden nickel for it.
