My highest Lefever is a E grade, lots of F, G, H and DS grades, but none higher. Few higher grades have seem to come my way when I was in the buying mode. This is one that I gets my attention.

Do not often see a Lefever which makes my heart beat faster than one of these. If I had the coin to spare, I would go look at this one and see if it is worth the price. Rare and good looking all in the same gun. Lefever made a very nice high grade gun that holds up well over time. Maybe next Christmas.....

Of all the highest grade guns, the Lefever has the most tasteful and appealing engraving of them all. Perhaps the 'Crown' grade LC Smith is somewhat close to the understated elegance of the Lefever 'Optimus' grade's engraving. The high grades of the Fox, the LC Smith and the Parker are just way too overdone or to gaudy for my taste.
The problem with the Lefever is there are just too many higher grades with Damascus barrels.

Virtually all of those High Grade Lefevers were built prior to 1915. The Crown as a grade was not introduced until the 1913 designation change as I recall. Its no small wonder so many of the Lefevers are Damascus.

If it is a real Optimus grade the price is very reasonable.

High grade Lefevers are among the most elegant looking shotguns ever made and there just aren't that many available. It's much easier to find a Parker A1S than a Lefever Optimus IMHO.

I agree with Doug.

This is a marvelous early example, if it checks out. They are very rare and worth buying in just about any condition. Lefever offered only the highest grade damascus they could source for the Optimus.

$15K deserves more photos.
