Drew asked about the damascus; here is a not great photo of Optimus 11,828, about the era, I think, of the offered gun. His description is that from the early Lefever Arms Co catalog; the only part specific to his gun is the blued barrels and general condition. Although I am certainly not in the market, I wish someone knowledgeable would go inspect the gun and post what they learn here and at the Lefever site.

Terry, I just noticed that the breech ball carving on your Optimus is exactly like mine. However,I do not have that engraved triangular dohicky on the flat area behind the breech balls. My serial number is 11857 so can I assume that yours is a piviot lever also?

This is a very interesting gun. I agree that more info would be nice. Watch the Lefever Forum for more updates before going crazy at $15K. http://lefeverforum.informe.com/

Doug, Yes, it is a pivot lever. I notice the offered gun has a slightly different carving pattern on the balls. It also has a little engraving in the triangle.
Rich, Nothing written on the tops of my barrels. How about on your AA? Since yours is even earlier, that might provide a clue.
Bill, No PM received.
