I've got a nice Stensby. A mid-range boxlock, 6 lbs 2 oz, with 27" barrels. Stensby sent me a nice letter about it's age and the local man in Manchester who had purchased it in 1929. Let's hope the records are kept available or perhaps they will continue as a business. Thanks for the heads up barrel browner.

Good luck on that venture Barrel Browner. I had been in the shop on a few occasions. I would think that that is the last of the Manchester Gunmakers. I have a little double .410 hammer gun with their name on. Sadly when I contacted them they said that they didn't record details of their smallbore guns. Living about 50 miles south of Manchester I do come across a few of their old guns. I have quite a few old Stensby cartridges in my collection. Oddly a lot of their shotgun cartridges say that they are loaded with 5 1/2 shot. Maybe a sales ploy. Lagopus.....

Hi Lagopus it just seems a shame that another name has gone I see the Lewis name and records are also being sold by Holts, I know we make nice guns over here but the English trade is getting smaller and smaller and the skills are not being passed on enough.

It will be interesting to see if these items sell due to the recession and Christmas is always a time of being careful with your money. The Lewis name as been auctioned a few times and never met the reserve.

I have seen what they are after for the Lewis records looks too much to me, I think the gun trade association should be buying them so we can all have access.

Is it just the Stensby name and records that are for sale or the stock as well? It is some years since I was last in their shop but I remember they had a couple of Stensby 12 bore double rifles on display but said that they were not for sale at the time. Lagopus.....

Good luck with the purchase then. I recall at the time they also had a Churchill over/under 10 bore in. Not sure whether or not it was for sale; I didn't ask as it would have been way more than I could afford. They had some interesting stuff in there. If successful please would you let me know. Lagopus.....
