The local Gander Mountain in CR IA turns away more fine guns than any retailer I've ever seen. Wish I had the time to stand there and buy a lot of the stuff that walks in. I have seen them value used guns only to tell the owner/seller that they could not buy the gun because parts were not readily available, they have full time gunsmiths, and if these "smiths" were worth their salt could make these parts very easily. I recently was in the store and a gentleman walked in with a 31 Remington solid rib 20 ga. D grade. VERY nice gun with good engraving and wood. They valued the gun at 550. He accepted what he thought was an offer and the clerk replied by saying, "Sir that was only an insurace valuation, we can't buy that gun, it's on our "do not buy" list." Needless to say that gun resides in my safe. Perhaps if these stores would pay a better wage to a select few, that would get some more knowledgable staff and make some money on used guns. None-the-less it made me very happy at the time.
