Joe, you asked a question and already had your mind made up ? Black electrical tape and then sending the gun off to a gunsmith ? I don't get why you even posted. Am I missing something ?

I've got shotguns with pads and guns without. The only real advantage I see with them is on a dedicated waterfowling gun. About 99% of the time you've got the butt down on some wet surface (boat, pitblind, mud, etc) and the pad protects the stock wood from getting into the water plus gives it a little traction while it's sitting there.

Well now, Destry, that's about the best use for a rubber (pad) that I've ever heard of. It sure as heck doesn't do any good up around my shoulder.......

Another vote for black electrical tape. Splurge on a fresh roll and it will stick better than you would imagine.

It almost sounds like the LOP is too long for you. I like my guns to be sticky. So, what do you do when your first shot makes your gun slide around for a quick second shot? You might also want to mount the gun by coming out and around (that's what she said) instead of sliding it too close to your clothes when you mount it. A rocker pad might help also. Good luck.

I've shown this use for a recoil pad once before. It's one of the more useful things I've found for one.

I like that photo. I, too, have one of the Pachmayer pads thats feels as if it has been built out of flubber, but, at least the damn thing doesn't have a white line spacer on it.
Gag me with a spoon.
I tried a bit of silicone spray on it, and it worked for about three shots, then the thing was getting stuck on my T shirt on the way up again. LOP is the same as my guns that don't have a sticky pad on them, so, unless there exists a different specification for LOP with a sticky pad, that ain't it.
The gun is a first year model 12. Maybe I should sell it to someone with longer arms?
Best, Ted

Hello All
Well, not really an answer to your specific question, but you can use Black plexiglass and make a right nice butt pad, and then round the top to allow the gun to mount quickly.
When I shot international skeet over in Europe, I used a Remington 3200 with a plexiglass pad.
The gun mounts quickly and if the stance is correct, the socket formed by raising the elbow is the perfect place for the gun to mount. Worked well for me for targets and lots of quail hunting.

Thanks, Mike.....I hadn't thought of the black plexiglass. Oughta be common enough. Good project after huntin' season.
