"If Tom built a 52 for Ike after the war, that brings the number of Shelhamer 52 sporters to 4 that I am aware of. You know of any more Michael?"

I did a quick check of my Shelhamer file and see at least six (6) 52 sporters. I've never found one for myself but did have a big and ugly 52 with Niedner barrel and Shelhamer stock I sold over twenty years ago.

I will identify the men in Mike's picture. Left to right Vernor Gipson, Ray Langguth (owner), Tom Shelhamer, Lew Dodd, C. Orville Behrman (my father), Niedner. Barrels marked OB are attributed to my father. Once I figure how to post pictures I can post some of Shelhamers work. It was not always so pretty as he had to do what the customer wanted. He was the only stockmaker ever at Niedners. I also have a Howe rifle that is not as pretty as the one shown by Michael.

Michael,

Can you show us a photo of the big & ugly 52 with the Neidner barrel and Shelhamer stock? I'm consumed with curiosity.

The bad news is I wanted to buy it but was out of gun money, the good news is a friend bought it.

I should have kept it. Considering the hit the consignor takes I could have made the price. Mike tell your friend that I looked and looked for the missing foreend screw but couldn't find it.

More familiar things are up for the next auction but no more Niedner stuff.
