I know, is a bit off topic but could someone please point me to where I could find some info about my new reason to be late with the rent?

FN marked gun(but Brownings patent), no engraving, 16ga, straight grip, weird push safety through front of trigger guard with some sort of secondary latch in it, something like TtI in a circle just forward of the loading port, also "Akan" ? and s/n 109xxx in same spot.

Is set up with swivels, plain barrel w/bead and straight grip.....back door import or bring-back?

Thanks,
Mark

Try a post over on http://www.shotgunworld.com under the Browing Forum. There are quite a few guys on there that have info on these early autoloaders. I'm a fan of them myself, that's where I go for info.

[Based on the experience of a friend who reconditioned and repaired these by the van load in London, during the early 70's or late 60's.]
It would appear that FN sold these throughout Europe on an agreement with Browning. Apparently some were even manufactured for the Middle-Eastern market, as they were lettered mostly in Arabic. I would think they "came home" with someone as I doubt Browning wanted the potential sales competition.Of the few I've seen, that's how they got here.

John M. Browning struck the deal with FN and began importing guns to the U.S. in 1903. Ad from Nov. 1903 Western Field --

Then J.M. gave a North America exclusive deal to Remington Arms Co. and in 1905 Remington Arms Co. brought out their Remington Autoloading Gun --

while FN sold the A5 to the rest of the world. When J.M. died the other Browning brothers/sons/nephews got back into the importing business.

775: The "Akan" marking may actually be Akah.
If so, it is the mark of retailer Albrect Kind - Berlin-Nurnberg, Germany.

Thank you Ian...bet it is...had to look at the stamp in the light a few different ways to try to determine what it was. Was toss-up between lower case H and N.

Thank you,
Mark
