Unmarked American sporter
The rifle is well inlet with many small gouge marks evident in the area of the action. Butt plate is marked with three lines (scratches) to match it with the stock which is marked the same. This indicates that it was made by someone who knew what they were about and who also made numbers of rifles at a time. It looks like a rough rasp was used to hog out the wood and then the edges cleaned rather than using a scraper for the whole job.
