Where's the hardware that mates up to the cuts in the rib?
Does the Army/Navy case look like that rifle's been living in it for 100yrs -- is there blocking to accommodate that side-lever?

Thanks for your help. If I can get the gun in a few days, I'll see what I can see with a bore light. I was trying to get on the road to get back home before the next storm moved in, so I got a few pictures, posted and packed up (sans gun).

What hardware should mate up? I didn't see anything else in the case, but I didn't really dig through the small bag. Is there something in particular I should look for?

As for the case's history (and the gun), this is all I know:

My parents neighbor says he took this gun as security for an $80 loan decades ago from someone in central Kansas. The person never paid him back and he moved to his present location with the gun over 26 years ago, exactly how many years, I don't know.
