Thanks! I think I read the article you quoted and it sems to agree on the latest possible date, if I read it correctly. Sounds like my estimate for the earliest possible date might be off a couple of years. Of course, if I'm completely misreading something, please don't hesitate to correct me.

Is there something that makes you believe this was converted besides my assumption that it is a 38-55? I'm not familiar English calibers at all.
