I have the same thought, Thorny-"I'm calling whatever on this". Take a dollar out of your pocket and use it as a down payment on a clue. Hey, the bluing is EXACTLY what would have gone on a Remington repro double, circa 1951. I wouldn't expect London quality wood to metal fit, in that era, from that company, either.

Didn't Remington have some sort of game farm operation in Ohio in the 50s and 60s, where the writers of the day went to shoot new Remington products, feast at the company trough, and write glorious things about the new stuff?

I'm not ready to call the gun or the story legit, but the guy shows up with a question, and has his character questioned because he doesn't post photos on somebody else's schedule, made more notable by the fact that those doing the questioning likely won't have any facts or answers when the photos do get here. Lay off it. Unless you have facts that prove something one way or the other.
Best,
Ted

Yeah, Don, consider this an electronic invoice - you owe Lloyd an apology.

That comment of yours was out of line.

I didn't bad mouth him or call him any or call him any bad namns. I just suggested he was on shakey ground, and after seeing the pictures, I still think so.

So,get over it!

I don't really have a dog in this fight, but where's the proof that the gun has the 1950's origin? I don't think anyone ever doubted the gun existed, just whether it is a re-done 1800's gun or a true 1950's production. No?

Lloyd - could you get some clear photographs of the Action & Barrel flats ? And a photo of some empty 20 Ga. Hulls in the chambers ?

I was wondering. If you look at the way the name Remington and it address is stamped on the barrels, is that exactly the way it was done on known 1889's? Or is this the way we would have seen an 1148 stamped or whatever was made in 1950. Was a ser. no. ever posted? Does that give a clue? What do the chokes measure?

I'm not jumping on anyone, from where I sit the bore does not look to be 20 gauge. I'm hoping the gun is just what he says it is.
