Mr. Lowell I think by now everyone on this board is aware that a lowly W.C. Scott is not classy enough for you to shoot crows with at the big plantation...lol

I say let's take up a collection and buy Stoney a barrel extension for his prised Beezley....if we raise enough maybe you could get it sleaved.

I'll donate .50 cents.

Sorry j0e, but thats how it goes.
The only Scott at the mannor house was most likely the keepers.
With Brit guns, you have to play by their rules.
Btw, I only shoot crows with a rifle, the way you should.

As usual the Info' One' can derive from "Webers Warriors" here on this'Forum of Knowledge'is absolutely Incredible....Maybe I can add a little more..I have Re-Stocked/Re-Forended'Several'W&C Scott&Son GunsFrom Lowly'Gamekeepers' DB Mod.to Gun Built for 'Royalty', Continentals seemed to Favor them more than the 'British Clan of Royals'(Least from my records,)One of my Guns was a 12x2.3/4"30" J.Whitworth Steel Bbls.'Self Cocking Hammers' Bar Action'Premier Grade, Side Clips on Action. Top-Lever.Extractors.7lb/14oz.I converted the Spinter forend(after a very heavy handed'Pigeon Shooter', who had just gone 25Pigeons Straight'Slammed it back onto the barrels, and split it into 2pieces.I wrapped it to the Bbls with Black-Tape and he went 15 more,Straight.Won the Shoot Off'I then converted it to a'Beavertail Forend'I have a couple of 1970s B&W photos that maybe of interest. It had a Gold Inlay of a Cross with a Crown in the Trigger-Guard Bow. A mention in Crawford/Whatley's book. Page 58,Master Engraver,Walter Howe,I met him on a visit to'Brum' in 1961,(He was Quite the Gent'& and when he was told I was a 'Purdey'Stocker, offered me some of his Spl. SNUFF'!!)Geoff Boothroyd sent me his 'Obit" after he died,March 1993.He reached 80 yrs.Started@ Webley&Scott,at 14 yrs old,and retired as their Chief Engraver@ 65yrs of age.As was the 'custom' in the Trade, Engravers didnot sign their work. they were just'Decorators', covering up the 'Shiny=bits'(I think It was my'OLD Friend Ken who really started them all off'Cutting their names all over the Lock-Plates,Trigger-Plates etc.)Tho' I do have some photos of Engrs. Initals from Fox'es,Parkers.Griffin&Howe'sc1920-30s.I had the only Gun,no Winchester S/S Rifle, that Harry Kell signed his full name on.One other point about Walter H', after he 'Retired', he continued to Engrave guns,Some for A.A.Brown of Alvechurch,(Still Hand-Made in the Traditional Way!)See the Web site...Best Guns in the English Tradition.I have a"Excellentia"12b,Back-Action,A quality, Game S/Engraved.all Orig.Shot a Skunk, back of the gunshop, both BBls, Looked like 'Full&Full!!!Very nice engraving.I would like to know about any Double Rifles, with W&C Scott&son Engraved on them, could be 'Interesting'.Crossedchisles.

"T", or so it goes, that all makers could build a best gun for the right client.
If this beez true, would you pay a Purdey price for a Midland Sle - Raj grade.
Most likely Midland could be counted on to build a best.
When all is said and done, big money follows the named gun, and like all big money, it will hit the mark 9 out of 10 times.
Money is smart that way, or so I hear.

Mr. Lowell Did you ever stop to think that pricing and production numbers often go hand and hand ?

One thing for sure smart people with smart money don't buy Cowboy Beezleys...lol

That was very enjoyable, all those nice Scott guns, thanks for putting up the pic's...I would be be a very happy dude if I had one.
I wonder if the snakes on some of them could actually be Eels?
Not that many snakes back home, just Adders & Grass Snakes if I remember right...but I was always catching bloody eels.
Eel n Chips aint half bad at all, washed down with a jar o scrumpy, the rough scrump from my part of somerset could either be drank, or sprinkled on your chips if you were out of vinegar..hah hah
Well take care you lot....& heres to a Happy new Year to all...mind those Sobriety Checkpoints , eh?
cheers

A similar gun is shown on page 26 of the book, "A History of
W.& C.Scott,Gunmakers", by J.A.Crawford and P.G.Whatley.
The gun is listed as "The Reliance,"The best boxlock gun made by W.& C.Scott.
I have seen a similar gun, but scroll engraved, in a Canadian collection. It is reported that production of this model ceased in 1933.
