I was at Cabela's in La Vista, Nebraska today and saw this gun http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/conten...erarchyId=11655It handles like a dream and I have a serious case of gun lust for it. Does anyone have any input on this gun? Is this a fair price? As you can see, it really is in wonderful shape. I know that it was likely built by Webley & Scott, but don't know much else about it. I really don't need another shotgun right now, but sometimes it just happens  TIA Cassady

Priced like 12br 'Primac'. I gave up on trying to tag 20br English guns. You do get English 20br with London address, but unlike some domestic brands their 12br guns don't weigh a "ton". How much is that worth to you.  I would take C&H over Webley any day.

What makes you think the Konor was built by Webley & Scott? As far as I know, Cogswell & Harrison made all their own boxlocks. The Konor, I believe, was a post-WWII boxlock made at C&H's Park Road Works in East Acton, London W3.

I've never seen a Cogswell Harrison like the one Cassady posted, but I also don't look very closely at their guns unless it's higher grade sidelock. There are plenty of Webly & Scott and W&C Scott side plated boxlocks that look like the Cogswell Harrison. Just because a gun "looks like" something you've seen doesn't mean it has the same maker. I don't believe Webley & Scott ever made boxlocks for Cogswell & Harrison. C&H made many side-plated boxlocks in London.

The reason I thought that this gun was built by Webley & Scott was because I saw this article: http://doublegunshop.com/ryder1.htmAnd it says "Many of the better names in London used Birmingham as a factory as well. Churchill's "Crown" grade guns were built by Webley & Scott, as were Cogswell & Harrison's "Konor" guns." I could well be mistaken and C&H could have built this gun in London, which would make it even more attractive. Thanks for all of the feedback. I have a C & H 12 bore boxlock that has a London address on the rib but I have no idea if the gun is Birmingham or London .I was just looking the gun over and could find no other indications of manufacture.
The Konar at Cabelas' is a nice looking gun the case colors and condition makes me wonder if the gun has been restored.
I like 20's and have a couple of W & S 20's but htis Coggie sure looks nice

Coggies' are great sideplatted guns - just look at the Charles Hellis guns. One big screw holding the plate on.
I would doubt a London maker would make up these sideplatted boxlocks, when they had bins filled to the brim with 'em in Brummieham. Finished in London, I can go with.
Anyway C&H made a nice gun.

Brian - Let me know what your gun's London address is, and I may be able to ballpark a manufacturing date. Cogswell & Harrison made most, if not all, of their boxlocks (side-plated or not) in their London factories - but these have been moved from time to time. I have a side-plated Coggie boxlock built in 1906 at their Gillingham Street Works near Victoria Station.
The Konor, being made in the '50s, just after WWII, might possibly be an exception; I have e-mailed the current incarnation of C&H to get an authoritative answer, and will post if and when they reply.

Cassady - You might want to check out http://www.gunsamerica.com. They have a nice looking 12ga. Coggie sidelock - with case - for only $500 more than the Cabela boxlock. Also, a C&H side-plated 12ga. boxlock with POW grip for $5000 that looks pretty good. I would hesitate to spend 6 grand on a boxlock, even if it is 20ga. Also, I've heard there were quality issues about some of the post-WWII Coggie boxlocks. Caveat emptor!
