I have a prewar M70 in 30-06 that has the same hole. I thought about installing a Redfield Junior mount, but the hole is not quite in the right place. I have also considered the classic Stith mount which may hide the hole. No, my gun is a high condition user, not a collector. A high condition prewar user in 30-06 sells for almost as much as an unmodified collector gun without extra holes. My 98% 1941 gun has sat on my gun show table for about six weekends with little interest shown. I don't think Model 70 collectors need another 30-06. What is the asking price of the gun you are looking at?
