My friend just left and he is going to sell his FN single shot mauser action and a .243 Remington 40x repeating target rifle. If anyone is interested I will have particulars tomorrow and of course will pay the fee if anything sells on this site.I have no interest in these myself and am just helping out a friend.

The #6 solid bottom FN action is a beautiful piece of work when modelled into a high quality target rifle. I never knew how much mine weighed (the action), but I always thought it would have made a great sporter if I could have separated it from the parts that made it weigh 15 pounds.

Mauser actions, whether repeater or SS, really do not make optimum target rifles. They are too flexible - the siderails are not deep enough. Military actions also have the thumb cut in the left rail to weaken them. In addition, the front guard screw comes up into the bottom of the recoil lug which is not as good as the M70 where it comes into a flat and pulls the receiver down more uniformly. I grant that some FN actions are well made and make elegant rifles, but they are not champion shooters.

Friend of mine won the National Championship a couple of years ago using a Mauser single shot action in .300 Win Mag. I just cut 2 inches off the back of the barrel and rechambered to .300WSM. He shot it Saturday at 600 yards and reports half X ring elevation (1 minute) from the prone position. So, Id say that while I wouldn't use one as a match action, some people are having pretty darn good luck with them.

My buddy is fitting a barrel on a rifle and hasn't had a chance to get back to me with the info on the action or the 40x. Hopefully soon.

Clowdia, your FN is the exception that proves the rule, more power to it.
