I own this gun that was done by Chic Worthing. Maurice Ottmar only chambered the gun but I believe Chic had input from Maurice, it certainly has a Germanic style. Chic stops by here from time to time, perhaps he'll comment further

It's a G33/40 in .338-06.

"The following firearm is a German style open sight rifle built on a G33/40 action. It has an old commercial German take off barrel, that was rebored to .338 by Cliff Labounty of Maple Falls, Washington. Maurice Ottmar chambered the barrel in .338/06. The barrel is a half round/half octagon with a full length rib with an integral hold down on the barrel and an integral sling swivel stud. The stock is Bastogne Walnut from Don Cantwell, Chico CA. I shaped it with raised side panels that are more evident in the second picture. There is a metal escutcheon on the forearm with a captured wedge that holds the barrel. I rust blued the metal. One of the most interesting features is the Lyman 35 sight. They mount on the bolt stop and swing out with the stop. They are a marvel of the machinist's art. Lyman sold them in 1900 for $12, but to put that in perspective, the Winchester 1890 22 rimfire sold at that time for $16. These sights now sell for $350 and up."

Rob , I thought that was Chics rifle, didnt know it was yours.

That rifle poped into my mind after seeing that ottmar rifle SDH posted. I had even went to Chics site to compare the two. Looks like that pattern was duplicated off the ottmar stock pattern

I also noted the similarities between mine and the Ottmars in Steve's book.

I got it from Chic a few years ago for a lovely Francotte he now carries around the NW.

Talk about a small world,I think the Champlin/Ottmar rifle that I missed back in the 70's, is for sale at Champlin now, am waiting for George Caswell to confirm the built date!

My brother and I had a nice conversation with George Caswell at the Vegas show. We were interested in what happened to Philip Pilkington, but he didn't know either. Ottmar used to work with Pilkington a bit at Champlins but the last time I taked with him he didn't know where Pilkington was either.

George had many good things to say about Ottmar as does nearly everyone who ever met him. He was a first class person as well as a first class gunmaker. His ability to do so many different styles of stocks so well make him my one of my most favored stockmakers.
