About 45 years before I was born, a man named Dan Lefever had his shop create a 10 bore "E" grade gun for someone with the initials "TP". A little more than a year ago, a Brittany pup named "Flash" came to live at our ranch. Yesterday, the OLD gun, the getting older man (me) and the young dog went to the field together. In a belt high CRP about 6 miles south of the home place, the young dog made one of his perfect points. A rooster flushed, The getting older man swung the old gun, and the rooster was dead in the air at about 60 yards. The young dog made his first ever complete retrieve to hand. What a joy! When he does perfectly what his human partner wanted him to do! This is what its all about. Not LOP or DAH or choke measurements or value. Its the doing. Fine guns, good dogs, good shooting and the out of doors. Its all one. We all have to thank the Good Lord for putting the pieces in place, People like the Dan Lefevers, who designed and crafted these guns. Dogs like "Flash" who bring so much to the occasion. I want to thank "Amarillo" Mike Sheperd, who, this morning urged me to write this, and the ever generous Mr. Joe Wood who loaded and donated the 10 bore cartridge that was the catlyst that completed the circle.

Uh, any witnesses besides Flash to the sixty yard shot? Not meaning anything, just like was there any lucid human being that saw that shot, cause, I mean, like I seen you shoot man, and uh, sixty yards. Certainly not beyond the capability of the gun or the cartrige, but uh, ya know, I mean I seen ya shoot.

Best,

Mike

Hard not to like the authority of a 10 bore, even when it becomes 'hard' to carry at times. Thanks for taking the time to post this, LD, much appreciated here. We are blessed.

All Best,

That would make the season for me. How things come together, how things relate to each other, defines the spirit. As we get older, it seems to burn more brightly. Something for others to look forward to!
