Hi all, just was wondering what was the first double (SxS)you bought? Not used, but one you paid for.
Mine was a 20ga Springfield 511. What a gun that one was. Not really bad, but boy different. You had to unscrew a screw to get the forend off. It was heavy, clunky and big for the gauge. I think it weighed about 7lbs.
I kept it for about 1 year and traded it in for a 311. After that, I progressed upward.
So how about you?
All the best!

Mine was a Parker reproduction 28 gauge pistol grip with single trigger and splinter forend.
Best,
Mike

My first? A Win 24,16 ga, 26" IC/M that was given me by my uncle. Ignorance is bliss, but I learned to hunt upland game with this gun---- rabbits, squirrels, grouse, quail, and the occasional wood duck. This gun has been in my possession for 55 years and I'm almost ashamed at the amount of game it has taken in my lifetime. Worn as it is, it still commands a prominent place in my safe, along with my Smiths, Ithacas, I/J's, and Foxes. It's the only gun that I bagged 15 doves with 16 shots-- ugly as sin but it got the job done !

12 gauge Fox Sterlingworth brush gun bought in 2002 for $500. Killed a ton of stuff with it from doves to geese. It got me started on doubles. Still my favorite gun. A friend started calling it Bo after Bo Whoop when I shot 4 Mallards with 5 shots. Almost everybody I hunt with knows it as old Bo.

My first double was a Browning Superposed in almost new condition, in 1961($195). They were only $295, new, back then.

16ga Western field (Stevens) with a tenite stock handed down from my father. What more could a boy ask for! In the hands of a young man with young eyes and reflexes Pheasant and rabbits did not stand a chance. I still have the gun, the eyes and the reflexes are a different matter!

I mistook double to mean SxS.
My first double purchase was a Winchester 101 12 gauge purchased about 1984.
Best,
Mike

Stevens 5100 in 16ga. Still have it, and I'm not sure I don't shoot it better than any gun I've got.
