Local shop has a Batavia Leader 20 ga. All original, blue just a little thin in places, tight open or closed, bores great, 20% cc; had a Jostam pad with a 15" pull. Are they era appropriate? It didn't have the round knob grip like my 1904; so I guess it's probably after Folsom took over. I forgot to write down the serial number.
One odd thing, it had a re-enforcement wedge from the forearm hook all the way to the flats like some Elsies have. I hadn't noticed that before on Bakers. And it seem to me that 20 guage Bakers are pretty scarce. Anyone else have a 20? They were asking $695.

I have a 20 ga. Batavia Leader, but I'm not familiar with the term reinforcement wedge. Could you tell me what that is. Thanks.

The 20-gauge wasn't catalogued in the Baker line until after Baker was sold to H&D Folsom. My Folsom-era 16-gauge Black Beauty Special Ejector has the reinforced web between the forearm loop and the flats.

Keith, scroll about one third way down and you will see a few pics of the wedge or web between the barrels at the rear of the forearm hook. http://www.picturetrail.com/sfx/album/view/15234180

My pre-Folsom 16ga Baker Black Beauty (not the Special Ejector) does not have the re-enforcement wedge. I previously owned a 12ga Bativa Special which was essentially a Leader with steel bbls & I am certain it did not either, though I don't currently have one to look at.

You see that "wedge" on the Folsom guns. These Folsom guns were numbered from 1F to around 14,000 F. The later the gun, the worse the workmanship is the general rule I have observed.

Patriot USA, Thanks for that information. I'll take a look at my Baker 20 tomorrow to see if it has the wedge.

I wonder why Folsom would have added the wedge as it would have been extra cost.

I looked at that Baker 20 ga. last night and it did have the reinforcing wedge. I had not really looked too closely at this gun as I only recently picked it up as a project. It needs a buttstock but is in otherwise too nice condition for me to pass up for $90.00. It is serial no. 343X F and seems to compare nicely in fit and finish to earlier pre-Folsom Bakers. I did notice the LLH stamp on the bottom of the right barrel and do not recall seeing that on fluid steel tubes.

No one gave me an opinion about the $695 price.
