Went to a decent sized local gun show in St. Louis today, and the emphasis is mostly handguns, knives, and ammo.

No quality/graded American SxS's; 2 Merkels, and a few Browning O/U's. Two decent drillings. Perhaps its because hunting season has ended.

This same show used to have 3 or 4 tables of high grade shotguns.

The good news is that I wasn't tempted at all, and returned home with my billfold intact.

Economy is bad. Think better guns are going to auction.

Hi, boy do I hear you!!! Our local show is basically a junk show.Except we don't have ammo to pick up and no SxS to speak of. The few (and I mean few) are way over priced. Most of the deals won't even allow to touch them for inspection.

Too bad, but that's the way it is - around here at least.

All the best!

Greg

Yup,that is the trend.bad economy means smaller tables..why lug all that stuff and setup for gawkers?
Trawling the net and visiting brick and mortar are where its at.
Gunshows are great for newbies tho,not doubles, but milsurp.
You just never know tho,I still go to them, may take 50 more shows before I find something.

I went to a small local show several years ago and was about to leave empty-handed and disgusted when I saw something under a pile of old hunting magazines. I pulled out the nicest piece of Circassian walnut I ever laid eyes on. Perfect grain layout, large enough for a pistol grip buttstock and forend, fabulous marblecake figure. The kind of blank you see on luxuswalnut.com for $3000.00 plus. The guy came over and asked me if I knew what kind of wood it was. I said "I'm pretty sure it's walnut." He said, "I think you're right... you can have it for 20 bucks." Needless to say, I didn't argue. Now all I need is a Lefever Optimus or Parker Invincible in need of a restocking.

Past Sat. went to a pitiful show in E. Peoria, Ill.
