http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=156823453F.R. Butler, I believe, was in business in the 40s and 50s. Over the years at the northeastern gun shows I have seen a number of his rifles, most, to my memory, on High Wall actions. This Mauser shows his common characteristic, a curlicue carved at the head of the cheekpiece. I have two of his Krag sporters that also have this feature. I do not recall ever having seen a Butler rifle without it, or one with fancy walnut. His guns are workmanlike but not top drawer and most, again to my recollection, notwithstanding my Krags, are varmint rifles.
