Beautifull gun. Is it true this is another Brummie ?
Yes, but that isn't a bad thing. I'm a double rifle guy and have been shooting these Webley's for years. They're among the very best boxlock DRs the British ever made.
I've been researching the British double rifle trade makers for quite a while, with emphasis on those from Webley and Harry Leonard (who built many of W. J. Jeffery's double rifles). Both were double rifle specialists to the trade. Webley built double rifles for the trade on five different dedicated DR actions, each of which is unique and easy to identify. The rifle above is an A & W C 1st, which was Webley's best boxlock DR. In my database, I have double rifles built by Webley for Holland & Holland, John Rigby, Lang (Lang was owned by the Webley brothers for a time), William Evans (pre-war DRs almost exclusively from Webley, although I did find one from Wilkes), Army & Navy, Manton, Charles Lancaster, Alexander Henry, George Gibbs, Churchill, Horton, London Sporting Park, etc. My database is organized by the Webley serial number stamped on the barrels. The only ones I've found that I'm fairly certain were stocked and finished by the retailers were one Holland and a couple of Langs.
