The only original Winchester action I looked at was rejected by my gunsmith. He wouldn't work on it because he was concerned about liability because of its age and some evidence of past abuse. The AGC actions are ready to barrel and shoot, but polishing needs to be done yet. I will say that the other actions I have received are more fully finished than this one. AGC will complete the finishing on the action as part of their cost when they complete the gun. But the real clincher for me on not using an original Winchester action is that AGC will build a complete gun for less than it would cost me to have an original gun barreled, and to buy the wood. That does not include the labor for stocking, checkering and finishing the gun. In addition, AGC's cost for installed sights, scope bases, and other additions is about the same as I can buy the parts at wholesale. I don't think these prices will hold for long. I think they'll have to raise prices to survive. The good news is tha they have the profitability of McGowan barrels to help carry the gun company until it starts to turn a profit. I'm going to take advantage of this short-term opportunity to get some nice guns at attractive prices. I don't care if the parts will fit old Winchesters. In fact, if I were AGC, I would make sure that they didn't so that there would not be liability associated with an old gun failing and the lawsuit entangling AGC. On the auction, I lowered the starting price and hid the reserve just to see what the market says they are worth. Thanks for the comments on the rifle.
