I think Lefevers are among the most elegant looking sxs guns. All of us are here at this site not because the side by side was the most efficient design but because we like them anyway. Don't let my critique of the dollshead mislead you into thinking otherwise
Chuck;
Let me make one more feeble attempt to get across what I am trying to say. Lets just say we take two otherwise identical trucks with different engines. One has a 300cid 6-cyl while the other has a 400cid V8 having identical bore & stroke dimension. Now load them both to an identical GVW & drive them down the same road to the same speed. Since both are pulling the exact same load, does thid mean that only 6 cyls of the V8 are working & the other two won't come into play unless the load increases beyond what the 6 can handle. "No" I think "Not". Each of those cyl's are simply carrying a less % of their potential than are those of the 6-cyl. The difference may not be much noted untill you try & climb a steeper grade.
Now likewise it is absolutely unnecessary for a failure of the hinge/frame to occur before the doll's head/crossbolt comes into play. Assuming a proper fit-up they simply "Share" the load from the Git-Go. They are an extra resistance to the frame bending/stretching & eventually cracking & also taking a portion of the stress from the hinge pin.
This is very simple basic mechanics. My biggest surprise is that I am even having this discussion at all with a person of your mechanical background.
