I am trying to learn a lesson. If the barrel is unsafe because the pitting is too deep, leaving not enough metal remaining in the barrel wall, how does lengthening the forcing cone hurt anything? Isn't the remaining barrel wall in the area of the pit just as it was, assuming that the forcing cone work didn't cut below the depth of the pit? Is there something about the monoblock construction that affects this? I confess I don't know what the term "monoblock" construction means. I'm not asking for the sarcasm I see elsewhere, but I would like to be educated.
