Another guy who liked to 'date around' smile

Charles A. “Sparrow” Young, of Springfield, O., won the International Trapshooting championship at the Chicago World’s Fair in 1893 with 99x100- gun unknown.
Using a L.C. Smith, he had the Long Run on Targets for 1899 with 211 straight May 8 at Peoria, Ill. and used a Smith at the 1899 GAH at Live Birds.
Using the nom de plume of “Robin Hood” (as a rep for the Robin Hood Powder Co.) he used at Smith in April 1900 at the GAH at Live Birds, then broke 25 straight at the Grand American Handicap at Targets in June 1900 with his own Young Repeating Arms Co. pump.
When that effort failed, he was a demonstrator for Baker Gun & Forging (W.R. Crosby having left Baker for Hunter Arms in 1899), an industry representative for Peters, and in 1907 he was shooting a Parker.
In the 1908 GAH Preliminary Handicap, now using a Winchester 1897 he tied the winning Amateur Score, 95 / 100. At the 1913 GAH he won Professional Championship 197/200 at 22 yards again with his Winchester.
He won the 1926 GAH with an Ithaca SBT

Could any of us do this?

Under the circumstances, and of those days, probably..
But lets start off ,you can only have one winner..
With a deep pocket for shells to practise...
An inclination..[heard thats most of it]..
and not a broad field of parcipitation at that level back then.

someone had to do it first, and he was someone. ? laugh

I admire those who wish to beat a world record, walk in that persons shoes, wear them out, and go further yet crazy

The 1892 Lefever catalogue notes that Rolla Heikes, using his 12 gauge Lefever, broke 648 out of 660 targets at Corry, PA, making two runs of 180 and 170 straight. The same catalogue quotes a December 1888 testimonial by Heikes about the qualities and achievements of his Lefever gun in many competitions.

Thanks Rich. OT as Rolla was using a Remington Autoloading gun in 1906, but here's a Lefever ad

Drew, the Lefever ad you just posted including the reference to the 1906 Kansas State Championship raises an interesting possibility: in the 1905 Kansas State Championship Peters Cartridge Co. sponsored a first prize which was an F grade Lefever trap gun, of which I am the lucky owner. The 1905 winner was E.W. Arnold. Maybe he liked his new Lefever prize gun and turned around and used it to win first prize again in 1906! The stock oval on the Kansas 1905 Lefever prize gun is shown above. People may be tired of me bringing up the prize gun, but you've raised a new wrinkle on it as to 1906!

Fantastic research, Drew. Many thanks. When I pick up E.W. Arnold's 1905 F grade prize gun, I'm in more awe of it than ever! No wonder the gun needed just a little bit of tightening on the famous Lefever adjustment screw!
