Hi all, I have a Bernadelli Hammer gun that I want to use for waterfowel. I'm thinking of having Briley installing their Thin Wall tubes rated for steel.
Anyone have any experience with these tubes using steel?
How well does Briley do when installing tubes? I've hear good and bad.

Greg, I can't say about the steel, but sent them a set of Perazzi MX-8 barrels to be threaded. They fitted their S1 series of tubes in them and did a fine job. I'm shooting them now, and am pleased. I need to send them a set of BSS barrels to thread for the same tubes, S1's, so that I can use the tubes I have, in it, but I'm holding my breath. I have heard so much first hand information of screwed-up barrels they did that I don't know whether to think I was just lucky, or what. I'll probably go ahead and send them, but I'll be relieved when they come home done right. That's just a scary deal. If they aren't done right, the original barrels numbered to the gun are ruined, and are irreplaceable. Thing is, if your barrels have very thin walls at the muzzle, their thin walls are about the only game in town.

I know a few people with horror stories, as I'm sure everyone does. I hope I never see the other side of things, but my experience has been good. I sent them a set of barrels and had thinwalls installed this past year, the work was great and I thought the service and turnaround were top-notch all the way. As a matter of fact, I emailed before sending my barrels to get some info, and they actually emailed me several days later saying they had NOT recieved my barrels and maybe I should track them...no one in this business has ever shown that kind of attentiveness to me in the past, and I appreciated it very much. I'll use them again if I have the occasion to.

Greg. I asked them about their thinwalls and use of steel and the answer was no. Only way to do it and be safe was to have the barrels threaded and the choke portion extended past the end of the muzzels. JW

I had them do my 12g BSS maybe 20-22 yrs ago. I've been very happy with them. BSS barrels are extremely thick. Briley has done thousands of barrels, maybe tens of thousands. I'm sure they have screwed some up, but I'll bet it's a very very low number. But a company like Briley should make good on something they screw up. The cost of a gun to them has to be a drop in the bucket, so I would think they'd make good on a gun that's replaceable.

A friend just sent them barrels from an RBL 16 for Thinwall installation. They couldn't do it. You need a minimum .040 wall thickness at the muzzle.
I've had them do a couple guns for me; pretty quick service, excellent job. They are not cheap.

They are not cheap, as postoak and Larry mentioned. I was fortunate to have won three $200 gift certificates from Briley. They threaded the MX-8, sent me nine S1 tubes, a choke tube "rotary" cleaning brush and a speed wrench for the certificates. I shoot Comp-N-Chokes in the MX-8 mostly, and want to get the BSS threaded to use the set of Briley tubes in.
There is plenty metal at the muzzles of mine. They measure nearly .060" left, and around .052 right.

In my case, Briley performed what could almost be said to be a miracle. I have told this story several times before on this site so I beg the indulgence of people who have read this story before. I bought a Skimin and Wood double that some genius had hand-reamed the chokes with a hand reamer, off-center. The gun's muzzles were left pretty thin. Nonetheless, Briley agreed (somewhat reluctantly) to install a set of Thin Wall chokes in a fashion that would bring the gun's POI back to "center". It worked. The old gun is now "a shooter", again.
I don't know what Briley recommends, now, but, when I had my gun done, Briley offered Thin Wall chokes that were steel shot compatible. I suggest that you call the nice folks at Briley and ask them directly about this.

I had them do a thin-wall steel for my M31 Remmy. It was my Dad's duck gun, now it's my duck gun. With an extra tight tube, it's my turkey gun
