I've used both Briley and TruChoke thinwalls to good avail. TruChokes are a lot more reasonable. I too use a Bernadelli for waterfowl hunting. Mine's a Gamecock Deluxe, but instead of tubeing it I use both bismuth and Kent Matrix in it. Works great as it's choked M & F anyway. Thankfully I stocked up on when there were sales and close outs.

I had Briley install steel-safe thinwalls on a Merkel of mine about 5 years ago. I've killed everything from close clay rabbits to big Canada geese and wild turkeys with it since, with the correct choke installed.

They did a prompt job. The only complaint I had was the barrel set came back missing the beads. Two days later I had a new set from them which I easily installed myself.

I asked specifically about this when I had mine installed since it was on an older target gun. I don't really care what my hunting ammo costs since I use comparatively little of it, but if nontox were required for targets it would put me out of business so I wanted my gun to have the ability to shoot steel or other hard shot. They told me that their regular thinwall tubes were not steel-compatible, but that I could purchase steel-safe tubes to fit the existing thinwall threaded barrels at any time, and those would be safe. If this is a concern you can simply buy the steel-safe tubes when you have your barrels threaded. I don't know if the steel-sdafe tubes are necessarily extended, I had thought they could be purchased flush, but am not sure--a trip to their site should confirm that.

You can also have Briley thread the barrels and then get a set of the new Muller Chokes (http://mullerchokes.com) . They are lighter than the thinwalls and will handle steel.

Those Muller Featherlight chokes look interesting. Anyone have any experience with them? Anyone know what they are made out of?

I would NOT DO IT. I have seen several screwed up jobs from there and some bulged muzzles from steel shot also.

I have them in 3 gun barrels all thin. All work perfectly. I believe the last ones I had done were well below .040 I will see what I might have written down, I know that it was less then they said they needed as a minimum. On that set the main reason I sent the gun for the tubes was to correct the POI which they did beautifully without having to use concentric choke tubes. Briely gets a thumbs up from me.

According to the article by Bruce Buck in the latest issue of ClayShooting USA they are "a blend of composites and aircraft aluminum that produces a material that is a third of the weight of steel and half the weight of titanium."
