I don't agree. I've never seen an M1922 with a long staff Lyman. It simply looks like a very early pre-WW I sporter stock by a maker influenced by Wundhammer.

Stock is stamped with the seriph date 1903 so it is a military stock but has undergone major custom changes. The work IS ABOVE AVERAGE. I have already repaired the finish and added a gripcap and period red solid recoil pad. I am looking for a 1903 DHT barreled action with issue barrel [good bore] that is already DT with a forged bolt and good blue. Will make a great early sporter. ANYONE WITH THE AFOREMENTIONED BARRELED ACTION PLEASE EMAIL AT 03sprg@windstream.net or call [706] 348-1386 Thanks

You guys could be on to something there. I didn't notice the finger grooves in the forearm before.

I think it is a great example of some of the really wonderful ways talented gunsmiths of the time could modify military stocks. Clyde Baker's book from the 30's has a good discussion on how to add a piece of wood to give a higher comb as was done on this stock, how to add a pistol grip as was also done here. He writes about how to fill in finger grooves and even add a cheekpiece which weren't done to this stock. Good luck on finding an action to fill it and the correct Lyman sight.
