I think it is a great example of some of the really wonderful ways talented gunsmiths of the time could modify military stocks. Clyde Baker's book from the 30's has a good discussion on how to add a piece of wood to give a higher comb as was done on this stock, how to add a pistol grip as was also done here. He writes about how to fill in finger grooves and even add a cheekpiece which weren't done to this stock. Good luck on finding an action to fill it and the correct Lyman sight.
