Yeah, a router in a jig is my Bridgeport. Takes up a lot less space.

IMHO Harris Highwall said it best when he suggested taking it to a REAL pro and let them give you their best advice as to the course to take.

Hello Rick,

Years ago I took in an English gun to refinish and rechecker. It came from a dealer who provided me work so I didn't really look to hard when I picked the gun up. When I got ready to start the job I was almost sick I'd gotten involved. Someone had sanded the forend checkering and completely dished out the area where it needed to be checkered. I looked at it and put it up for about a month then remembered seeing a grip on a target gun that had been built up using epoxy and sawdust to form a palm swell then checkered. I figured I had nothing to loose so thought I'd give it a try. Matching the color of the wood involved using a lighter shade of walnut to make into dust as the epoxy darkened the "filler mix" a fair amount. After sanding it down and checkering and adding some oil, it looked just like the wood.

The dealer who had taken the gun in was very picky and he couldn't believe how well the repair looked. So, I'd give it a try. I think you will be pleasently surprised! Don Hansen.

Thanks gentlemen. Good advice all. I figure it is my practice gun to play on and not cry; I think I'll give the epoxy/sawdust method a try. Makes more sense than my idea.
thanks again
Rick
ps. I would never consider doing such a thing to one of my nice guns. That is what pros are for.

Just camo the thing and be done with it. Add wood and checker it. This is a shooter not a Best gun. What do you have to loose?
