The only one I've ever owned was also a Halifax, also had heavy trigger pulls. Beautifully restocked, but unfortunately by a guy who did trap stocks. Added a significant amount of weight and lost the Darne "feel". I lusted for one from the first time I ever had my hands on one, which was in France in 1976. Don't know that I'll ever own another, but I continue to admire them. Darned near (no pun intended) bought a very nice (but very plain) Charlin 16 in France, in about 1996. However, the quirky safety would bother me for field use, same as it does on the Manufrance Ideal--another quirky French gun I also admire.
The French also made a lot of very nice and very underappreciated "barn hinge" guns.
