I recently participated in a tower shoot at Markover Preserve in CT with pheasants and pigeons hand released from a tower that was surrounded by 12 pegs with two guns in each peg. I understand that the Addieville club in RI holds similar events. Not sure I will do it again (still recovering from shooting 5 boxes of 13/8oz 1440 fps 12 ga shells at birds directly overhead
), but it was an interesting experience.
Obviously, what RI and CT permit does not control what is or is not legal in CA, but does indicate that other states do not view it to be cruelty to animals, to the extent that might undermine a "reasoned" opinion by the CA AG about what the law ought to be.
