For a while I collected a number Mannlicher based British sporting rifles. I could never understand why some of Britain's best makers continued to use Steyr actions rather than sticking with Mannlicher Schoenauers exclusively. Then I found some clips and as soon as I tried them the answer was obvious. You could almost drop them in to a Steyr while cartridges in an M-S clip had to be fed in gingerly. The Steyrs were popular in Africa and India where there was a need for rapid reloading.
