While shooting my 1954 vintage Merkel model 14E o/u yesterday I experienced a broken main spring on the bottom barrel. Upon taking apart the action it appears that it is easy to remove and install the flat spring on the hammer of the trigger plate action - something I can do if a replacement spring is available. But several questions come to mind;

Can I order a replacement factory spring from GSI/Merkel USA? Anybody have any experience ordering parts?

If I can't order a spring, I assume that I will have to have a spring made. But how much does the spring power affect the trigger pull? This Merkel had excellent trigger pulls on both barrels and I would like to make sure the replacement spring does not change the trigger pull.

There are no drop in replacement parts for that gun, everything will need to be hand fit. I can not from memory recall exactly what the spring looks like, but a picture would help. Trggers pulls are mostly the result of sear angles and the relationship to the hammer bent. The replacement spring, if it is a close fit, should do little to alter you trigger pulls.

Or you can fiddle around with pretenders who can’t find their hip pockets on their best day, while you wonder where the hell your gun is, and why it’s takin’ so long—only to hear that “It’s gonna take longer and cost more…holy-crap, I didn’t know it was gonna be this is hard…I-want-my-mommy!”

Wish I wudda known ‘bout Herr Wohlmuth waaaay back.This master has saved me aggravation—and getting the “long deal” more than once.
